Cory Bernardi is Tackling Some Real Issues When He Says Ban the Burqa

One Nation congratulates Senator Cory Bernardi for tackling some real issues.

Here are some facts about the burqa.

It is not islamic, it is cultural. There is nothing in the koran that tells women they should cover their faces.

As recently as the 1970s in secular Arab countries, such as Iraq was then, the burqa was almost unknown. Now it is being promoted by oppressive regimes like those of Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Even the Muslim Brotherhood, so radical they are not permitted to run candidates in the Egyptian elections, have ruled against it.

It causes vitamin D deficiency by blocking sunlight so we would be doing women a favour by stopping them wearing it.

If the opinion of ordinary Australians means anything to our leaders, and it probably doesn't, in a recent poll on Channel 9 there was a clear majority against permitting the burqa in Australia. Apparently most Australians find it intimidating and confrontational.

Interestingly, the same people who promote the right to wear the burqa in the name of multicultural tolerance have remained silent while Australian women wearing western-style dress have been driven out of some Sydney suburbs after being continually the target of epithets like "Aussie slut". For the benefit of social researchers, that was what the Cronulla riots were all about.

One Nation says we need more politicians from the major parties to dump political correctness and speak out on issues that concern the Australian people.
